Wheelchair Push

Brushing aside the locusts swarming on the Wagin-Katanning road Perth Rotaract fund raiser Fiona Aitken headed for Albany's big Rotary conference held last weekend. Helped by Californian exchange student Christine Vecci and other young Rotarians Fiona pushed the wheelchair 550kms to Albany. They hope to raise $5000 for Rocky Bay Crippled Children's Village in Mosman Park. 'We all must be mad!' chorused 14 flushed but happy young people. 'But we've enjoyed every minute of it,' they added. They were referring to the fact that most of them had taken annual leave from their jobs to push a wheelchair from Perth to Albany. All 550 kilometres of it. The team - all members of Perth Rotaract clubs - chose to push the chair in an endeavour to raise money for the Rocky Bay Crippled Children's Society.
