Leadership Training
Informal leadership training and professional development is available year round, through:
- participating in the organisation of projects and events
- opportunities to practise your public speaking at meetings and events, and
- taking on a leadership position on the Club Board.
Formal training assemblies are also organised, plus training is also offered at Rotaract Conferenes around the world and via the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards
We strongly encourage all our members aged between 18 and 25 to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), a week long live-in camp held towards the end of January.
With a cost of around $100 for participants (Rotary sponsors the rest), it is one of the best experiences you can have to push the limits of your boundaries and develop leadership skills that will be invaluable to you throughout your life!
Rotaract Conferences
Unfortunately our Rotaract District is not large enough to hold a District Conference of its own, but there are other annual and regular Rotaract Conferences around the world that are available for us to attend. They are usually excellent value for money, provide excellent training seminars, and offer numerous opportunities for informal learning by meeting Rotaractors from many different countries and talking to them about the sorts of things they do in their clubs.
Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference
The annual Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference (APRRC), usually taking place in August or early September, was first held in Hong Kong in August 2004 since the Rotaract Preconvention was cancelled that year.
It is typically a combined effort of all the Rotaract districts in the host country, and is run by the local Rotaractors with support from Rotarians.
Usually around US$100 - $150 for everything you need over the full 4 days - transport to and from the airport, accommodation, all meals, plus the conference registration - it is one of the best value for money events around!
The APRRC usually attracts 450 - 900 delegates from 14 countries. South Perth member Simone Carot Collins has thus far been the lone Aussie Rotaractor to attend the APRRCs, and she strongly encourages others to check it out!

Rotaract Preconvention
The Rotaract Preconvention, organised by Rotary International 2 days immediately prior to the annual Rotary Convention, is held most years in June, but varies widely from year to year!
At between US$60 - $100 for the registration alone (which also grants you registration to the 4 day Rotary Convention), it is usually a very expensive conference to attend, which is reflected by much lower attendance figures. The Rotaract Preconvention is where the Outstanding Rotaract Project Award presentations are made.

Interota
Interota, an international conference held by Rotaractors for Rotaractors for 6 days every 3 years, puts a higher focus on workshops and projects than the numerous plenary sessions that the Preconvention offers, and puts a higher emphasis on showing the culture and attractions of the host country.
Like the APRRC, the cost is all-inclusive, but with Interota normally being held at a 4 Star hotel, it is more expensive than the APRRC, but not as expensive as the Preconvention. The 2008 Interota in Seoul, Korea cost US$500.
